Sushi

In Japanese cuisine, sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish dishes. Sliced raw fish alone is called sashimi, as distinct from sushi. Combined with hand-formed clumps of rice it is called nigirizushi; sushi items served rolled inside or around nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or algae) is makizushi, toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu is inarizushi; and toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi.

I didn’t intend to celebrate; I just happened to have a bunch of crackhead girlfriends.

These women have been my joydrugs ever since our days as film students. The photographer is the one in black-and-white Sunburst tee; Nana Suleiman. The creative-genius among us. Ironically, often the most clueless too. She’s now a practitioner in the local film industry. The specky girl in orange is Faez Othman. Don’t be fooled by her glasses, though. She would be the person I turn to if I feel like unleashing my horns. She either causes drama or finds drama. Her favourite F word is FUN. The partner-in-crime beside me is Kerr Abdullah. A multimedia designer. Most organized human being I’ve ever known, with the neatest handwriting. She never forgets to camwhore and say I love you. Girlfriends are like sushi, I guess. They come in various colours and tastes but with one basic ingredient, vinegared rice. Love.

Zaman kami diploma dulu, pensyarah Bahasa Inggeris kami namanya Mr. Kamal. Saya sangat ingat Mr. Kamal sebab beliau bukan guru konvensional. Yeah!

Petang ini baca puisi di Bangsar. Malamnya mungkin teman Fynn di Sunway. Esok tengahari ada penggambaran di Shah Alam. Saya memang kalah kalau budak-budak FACT minta tolong.

Salam hari sayang bumi. Malam ini dan sampai mati.
